The one where I fiddle around with tournament lists...

Now BBV is over and the dust has settled I have a lot of work to do. I've got three 40k tournaments coming up, two 1850 and one 1500 point! I've got until 1st March to decide on a list for Death or Glory 2 before it needs to be e-mailed for publication!

I just wanted to bound a few ideas around to see what feedback I could get from people and/or suggestions that can be made.

Firstly, I want to do a list which isn't currently being banded around the internet and everyone is playing and I also want to make something which is unusual. I know the combos that are currently in the meta and all battle brother combos have been maxed out! I've got a few ideas and I'm going to use the DoG2 list format to present this ideas! I've drawn from a range of different army books. Some figures and lists I have or nearly have, others I haven't got anything! Maybe a bit speculative to get a 1850 list ready for a tournament in March but something that could be a long term project! Considering my 'Geek Embargo' currently in place I'm going to have to be sneaky about this!

There are a few things which you will look at and think 'You lying bastard! That's in the current meta!' and for a few things you'd be right and individual units or combos will be but I want to look around the whole list! Things which aren't being used!

What I want to do is give my list and then a breakdown of why I have chosen it!

List 1:

Ork
HQ:
Warboss [60] Bike [40] Twin Shoota [5] Power Claw [25] Cyborg Body [10] 130

Elites:
10 Nobs [200] 10 Bikes [250] Painboy [30] 10 Power Claws [250] Banner [15] 745

Troops:
30 Boyz [180] Nob [10] Power Claw [25] 215
30 Boyz [180] Nob [10] Power Claw [25] 215
30 Boyz [180] Nob [10] Power Claw [25] 215
30 Boyz [180] Nob [10] Power Claw [25] 215

Heavy Support:
Looted Wagon [105] Kannon [0] 105

Total: 1840

So, this list ends with 10 points to spare. A different take on the previous edition's list of Battlewagon spam but with 120 boys and Nobs on bikes it can be very hard to shift! The problem comes with flyers. How do you bring it down when there's nothing that can do that job? Something to think about but if the troops fall to masses of ork boyz then what's there to worry about! This is one of the lists that I would need to start from scratch. It's also a list that will be updated soon...ish! So not too sure what to think. I've given the dex a go because I haven't really looked at Orks and I just wanted to see what combos there were to use to build from. I know some ally in crons so that might be a better solution to anti-air. Possibly drop the Nobs, put in another 2 units of boyz and get some other stuff in... hmmm....

List 2

Chaos Space Marines
HQ:
Lord [65] Bike [20] Mark of Nurgle [15] Burning Brand [35] Power Fist [25] 160
Lord [65] Bike [20] Mark of Nurgle [15] Power Fist [25] 125

Troops:
Cultists [50] 50
Cultists [50] 50
Marines [75] Plasma [15] 90
Marines [75] Meltagun [10] 85
Marines [75] Meltagun [10] 85
Marines [75] Meltagun [10] 85

Dedicated Transport:
Rhino [35] Dirge Caster [5] 40
Rhino [35] Dirge Caster [5] 40
Rhino [35] Dirge Caster [5] 40
Rhino [35] 35

Fast Attack:
5 Spawn [150] Mark of Nurgle [30] 180
5 Spawn [150] Mark of Nurgle [30] 180
Helldrake [170] Baleflamer [0] 170

Heavy Support:
Maulerfiend [125] 2 Lasher Tendrills [20] 145
Maulerfiend [125] 2 Lasher Tendrills [20] 145
Maulerfiend [125] 2 Lasher Tendrills [20] 145

Total: 1850

Again, another list which I have nothing of and something I'd need to get! The plan is very simple, it goes in a big rush! Both the Maulerfiends and the Spawn ignore terrain so they can move the full 12 each turn without having to worry about what's infront of them! This can pose a big problem for opponents. Coupled with the 4 rhinos which rush towards, the dirge casters provide no overwatch fire! Great for spawn to get in! The two units of cultists are used as a deckchair unit coming on turn two/three. I may even use a rhino at the back without the dirge caster to shield the unit and have a moveable barrier! The only problem is that units of 5 aren't that durable! I found this out at BBV and so to did Pete. I might need to change the marines and put them together, just move a few things around.
This is why I wrote list 3...

List 3

Chaos Space Marines and Daemons of Chaos
HQ:
Lord [65] Mark of Nurgle [15] Burning Brand [35] Power Weapon [15] Sigil of Corruption [25] 155

Troops:
Cultists [50] 50
9 Marines [127]
9 Marines [127]

Dedicated Transport:
Rhino [35] Dirge Caster [5] 40
Rhino [35] Dirge Caster [5] 40

Fast Attack:

Helldrake [170] Baleflamer [0] 170
Helldrake [170] Baleflamer [0] 170

Heavy Support:
Maulerfiend [125] 2 Lasher Tendrills [20] 145
Maulerfiend [125] 2 Lasher Tendrills [20] 145

Allied Detachment
HQ:
Herald of Nurgle [45] Greater Locus [25] Greater Reward [20] 90

Troops:
Plaguebearers [90] 90
Plaguebearers [90] 90

Fast Attack:
5 Plague Drones [210] 210

Heavy Support:
Soul Grinder [135] Warpsword [25] Warp Gaze [25] Mark of Nurgle [15] 200

Total: 1849

So List 3 is a mixture of Daemon and Marine with a total financial cost of £420! Taking out the lord and spawn gave me room for the drones. The idea for the daemons is to get the Balesword with the Herald and with their deep strike get close for combat or come on as a deckchair. The Herald isn't really a concern what I want is for the drones and the maulerfiends to be a distraction surging forward (along with the rhinos). Enough units to cause problems! The Soul Grinder and the 2 Helldrakes provide anti-air and anti-infantry! WOuld be interesting to see how this list would play out. Again, I would need to buy everything for it!

List 4

Chaos Space Marines with Necron
HQ:
Lord [65] Mark of Nurgle [15] Power Weapon [15] Sigil of Corruption [25] 155

Troops:
9 Marines [127]
8 Marines [114]
Cultists [50]

Dedicated Transport:
Rhino [35] Dirge Caster [5] 40
Rhino [35] Dirge Caster [5] 40

Fast Attack:
Helldrake [170] Baleflamer [0] 170

Heavy Support:
Maulerfiend [125] 2 Lasher Tendrills [20] 145
Maulerfiend [125] 2 Lasher Tendrills [20] 145

Allied Detachment:
HQ:
Destroyer Lord [125] Mindshackle Scarabs [20] Resurrection Orb [30] 175

Troops:
Necron Warriors [65] Night Scythe [100] 165
Necron Warriors [65] Night Scythe [100] 165

Fast Attack:
5 Wraiths [175] Whip Coils [50] 225

Heavy Support:
3 Spyders [150] Gloom Prism [15] 165

Total: 1846

Okay, so a different list! Still with the Maulers, this time with wraiths and spyders running in! A destroyer lord isn't a bad choice for a HQ which will provide me with enough coverage to smash anything in the way! The spyders with the monstrous creature ability which is enough of a deterrent to stop some charging objectives or even holding them!

List 5

Dark Eldar with Eldar
HQ:
Baron Synthonax [105] 105
Haemonculi [50] 50

Troops:
5 Wracks [50] 50
5 Wracks [50] 50
5 Wracks [50] 50

Dedicated Transport:
Venom [55] Night Shields [10] 65
Venom [55] Night Shields [10] 65
Raider [60] Night Shields [10] Flickerfields [10] 80

Elites:
3 Grotesques [105] 105

Dedicated Transport:
Raider [60] Night Shields [10] Flickerfields [10] 80

Fast Attack:
4 Beastmasters [48] 18 Khymerae [216] 264

Allied Detachment:
HQ:
Eldrad [205] 205

5 Warlock Council [175] 5 Jetbike [75] 5 Singing Spears [25] 275

Troops:
Windrider Jetbikes [51] 51
Windrider Jetbikes [51] 51

Heavy Support:
Wraithknight [240] Suncannon [40] Scatter Laser [20] 300

Total: 1846

Well, another list an awful lot of transport! We all know about the power of the Beastpack and what damage it can kick out. I wanted to keep the beasts but include a seer council and Wracks! I do love the wrack list and this may be a way of making it work. I was working on a CSM/DE list where the dirge casters would stop them getting shot to shit before they could arrive in combat but I'm not sure how I could work it... Maybe I will have a look at that this afternoon and see what I can do with it. I think it would be similar to the beastpack but include a helldrake and maybe some spawn to make a threat. Again, no anti-air and it's something quite close on my mind. Perhaps taking the Suncannon away and leaving it with the two cannons might provide a solution but shooting up into the sky...hmmm... may prove a problem whereas the Helldrake would solve that anti-air!

So, here are some of the lists that I am toying with. I'm hopefully going to try out one of these this week and I will post a report on how I do. If you have any comments on these lists please chat to me on Twitter @geekphotoguy and let me know what you think would/wouldn't work!

Thanks for reading! I'll see you soon!
