The one where we meet Twitter people!

Good Morning! Well at least it's morning here although it won't say that when it's posted on the blog! Damn US time!!!

It's currently 5am and 'Why?!' I hear you ask 'Are you writing a blog at 5am?!' Well the answer is simple... At 4am the Mrs' phone went off because she left the internet signal on and guess what... now I can't sleep! She however, is sleeping perfectly fine next to me, so I'm hammering the keyboard as loudly as I possibly can! In a minute we'll have a disco when I start turning lights on and off getting ready for work! That'll Learn Her!

Anyway, back to geeky material of the geekiest nature!

Most of you will know me from Twitter and the surrounding areas (@geekphotoguy) and I'd like to think that the community on there is fairly close knit with people lending things, buying off each other and commenting openly on games, painting and how I seem to powergame the feck out of books... For the record - Grey Knights and Eldar is fluffy...in my head!
Over the past year or so I have talked to some really genuinely decent people who care about the hobby and also care about each other. Meeting people at Warhammer World last year was a great experience because I got to meet new people but also I got to take some really cool pics AND even game a little too!

One of those gamers I met was Nathan (@NinjaNathUK) who plays Crimson Fists! Now the first time we played it was 1000 points and I was playing Sisters under the old rules where Celestine gets up...and up...and up, just like Viagra! It only began to wind Nathan up when Celestine got a vortex to the face (yeah she did!) and then got back up again only to slay the Libby who had decided to did to her (yeah he did!). Well, in the end my Exorcist (Yes, just 1 at 1000 points) managed to smash 6 missiles a turn into things!
This time, Nathan had made the trip up to see us in the West Mids and to exact revenge on Celestine and the Sisters! What he hadn't counted on however was the fact that I'd changed my list from the fluffy bunny of Celestine to the Tournament hardened Grand Master of the Grey Knights. Just a note, Nath if you are reading, I am very sorry!

So, my list (as stated in a previous post) contained some monstrous jump infantry, power armoured testosterone filled sword wielding loons and a guy on a jetbike with a sniper rifle! The idea is the Grand Master makes the Dreadknight's scoring, this time only 1 of the 2 was a scoring unit! Nathan had evolved his list too, including 10 termies in 2 squads (powergame), a raptor with AP3 Heavy 7 guns (powergame) and a Vindi and Pred (powergame) :-)

This would be his first game playing missions and what better mission to start with than the Scouring! Huzzah! Nice and simple, 6 objectives and we decided not to look at them until after the game to add to the excitement! Well, not to bore you with the details but Nathan ripped power armour apart like a Raptor ripping through power armour! The raptor was deadly! Lucky for me I managed to knock it out of the air in the 5th turn (after all my troops were more or less dead) with the help of a Storm Raven! It was a game where the outcome flattered the victor, in truth the game was balanced on a knife edge! The fact was the two termie units couldn't get anywhere near their intended targets due to the fact they kept jumping out of the way!

In the end, with the useful assistance of a WraithKnight and 2 DreadKnights I managed to sneak a 7-2 win. The dreadknight being able to score is a massive thing in this game! It enables me to have up to 7 scoring units on the board at a time!
One slightly off topic point I would like to raise...
HOW IS THIS FAIR?!
And also, if I can reach surely I don't need to shoot up into the air when i can just headbutt it!!!

So, Nathan came up and played a thrilling 7 turn game with an army list which isn't too far off a very good tournament level. With more games he will become a formidable opponent!

Recently on the Twitter I have been chatting to a few other lads who have joined the hobby and are local to the WM area. We invited them down on Friday for a taster game and to have a feel of what the hobby is about! Shaun (@CaptainHelvetos) and Luke (@lukanwhitehouse) are fantastic people and I really hope they had a good time with us! I know it can be scary meeting new people and trying to take on board a shed load of rules, tips and tactics all at the same time but I really hope we will see them again at our gaming group! The models below are all Luke's work... filthy filthy daemon player...

And Shaun's in the process of getting Dark Angels and Guard!
I hope to see more of his models soon!
I want to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to both for coming down and joining in, hopefully learning something new and enjoying the experience!

Lastly for my 5am blog... :-/ ... Nigel (@NigelSBartlett) and Graham (@wilsongrahams) battled it out with their BBV lists to give it another practice run before the big event... I'm not going to lie I was more engrossed in watching Shaun and Sponge (@79sponge) slog it out on the battlefield of rough sand that hurts your elbows when you lean on it! Sponge has recently completed his Daemon Prince of Nurgle! Hmmm....

I can however show you some pictures of their battle! I do believe that Nigel came out on top...just!!!

Finally... Pete (@petehumpage) and Midders or Rich (@deathbyblowpipe) started pasting each other in a game of the square base... Lizardmen (which still need to be painted for BBV and only 3 models are done out of 150... 2 WEEKS RICH!) and Empire (More or less all painted and NOT going to a tourney!). Yet again, I have no idea what happened but I do have photos to make up for the lack of not knowing! At one stage, while Pete went to sort something out for 5 minutes, I took over and managed to kill lots of Empire men (which happened to be my own) and no Lizardmen but it's okay because I left them on the table to remind Rich of the mammoth task which he has to do!

I think it'll be time for me to go (to work!). So I'll leave you with a few closing pictures of a really great night on Friday! Hopefully the next time I'll blog I'll actually talk about the Old West!!!

So, I'll see you soon!
