Mistakes were made! (Age of Sigmar)

And we are back!

It was Thursday night; therefore it was my regular dose of gaming goodness at my FLGS! Continuing my AoS adventure, I faced off once again against Keith and his Bloodbound/Demon mix.
We don’t have a huge following of AoS players down the store but by playing and getting more people watching games, I’m hoping a few more people will pick up a small box set soon. There is an AoS event in the pipeline down at the store where it almost goes into a ‘slow-grow’ style event over a few weeks.
I digress. On to the battle!

Before the game, I asked Keith what he would like to play and he chose the Stormcast ‘Warrior Brotherhood’ list at 1500 points. So, I just took what was in the battalion:

Keith took:

Now, I think he’s missed a real trick with the Bloodbound/Demon list – particularly in character selection, but I’ll come to that later.

Scenario: Three Places of Power

Keith started with the first turn and proceeded to move his whole army completely forward and threw his Demon Princes onto two of the 3 objectives. From the point onwards, I was going to have a very difficult time turning this game around!

Two Good
*1 Unit of Judicators, Lord Celestant and Lord on Dracoth put 7 wounds onto the Demon Prince in the centre of the board in their first battle round.
*2nd unit of Judicators puts 4 wounds onto Chaos Sorcerer in the first battle round.
*Lord Celestant takes down a Skullcrusher after being 3” away for a pile-in move.
*Chaos Warriors roll Bravery check and run…slightly!
*3 shots/hammers from the Lord Celestant hit and mortally wounded Blood Warriors.

Two Bad
*Letting Keith have first turn! Now, you’re reading this and going – YOU F***ING IDIOT! And yes, you have every right to say that!
*Unit of Liberators which dropped behind the Bloodbound didn’t move until the 5th battle round… because I forgot to move them… 3 rounds… yes… I really did…
*Blood Warriors roll a double 1 to charge the Lord of Dracoth despite needing a 3…

Final Score: Bloodbound 15 : Stormcast: 4

Lessons Learnt
*Take First Turn – Part of the process of learning a new army is learning its capability but this was just sheer stupid on all levels. What I should have done was drop down infront of the objectives to claim two of them on the first turn and make him come on to me through perfectly sculpted formation which was able to collapse a flank inward.
*Remember all models which are on board – particularly mine that are hidden behind a building and can’t be seen when I’m in a head rush of trying to remove those bloody Demon Princes!

In reflection, the mistake at the beginning of the game has cost me in VPs. Keith did end the game with no models on the table but that really doesn’t matter! It’s all about the VPs, baby! He played the game absolutely spot on and, unlike some other games we've played, he git a firm grip on the scenario and smashed it!
I love this change of AoS and it’s something which GW should have done a long time ago with their games.
All in all, a fantastic game and one I’d love to do again and learnt from my mistakes!

Well, that’s all from me for now!

Thanks for reading.
I’ll see you soon!

OH! I almost forgot!
I mentioned earlier about the list Keith took and I was thinking about how it could be altered into a more hard hitting list. I really think that the Bloodsecrator should be utilised in order to give the warriors more punch!
I was playing with a 1500 point combo, using the stuff that Keith has to come up with:
*Bloodsecrator
*Bloodsecrator
*Demon Prince (of Khorne)
*Bloodstoker
*Blood Warriors (10)
*Blood Warriors (10)
*Chaos Warriors (20)
*Korgorath
*Korgorath
*Bloodletters (10)

There are a lot of models here, you could even take out the 20 Chaos Warriors and add in 40 Bloodreavers as a huge speed bump. Using the Bloodsecrator to not take battleshock, it will take a while to chew through a large unit like that, particularly when they face off against a smaller more elite army - like Stormcast. Leaving a sizeable chunk of points left over for a 1500 point list, there are many options you could visit; for example 20 Chaos Marauders to add to the huge pile of flesh in front of the enemy which isn't going to be easy to deal with, let alone wade through!

Right, that's it! I'm done! I promise!

  1. Fair comment about the choice of my list, but I wanted to try magic.
I might try that list next time though 😁

  2. You did indeed win!

I think you still have room for magic in that list I put up there if you drop the Bloodstoker and the Chaos Warriors then add the Sorcerer and Bloodreavers.
It's worth toying with because they can be brutal with the banners!
